「人口と経済の発展がもっとも速い国はどこでしょう？」と聞かれたら、なんと答えますか？

たくさんの人が中国と言うでしょう。

しかし、人口と経済に限って言えば、おそらくインドが中国を凌ぐそうです。

インターナショナルクラスでお迎えしたスペシャルゲストから学んだたくさんのことの１つです。

まみさんはインドに１０ヶ月住み、学校、孤児院、教会で働きました。

食べ物や、文化、人々について多くの質問をしました。インドでは２００以上もの言葉が使われると知って、生徒の皆さんは驚きました。

まみさんは日本人は自分しかいない町にすんでいました。

だれも日本語を話せませんでしたので、コミュニケーションはほぼ英語を使いました。

インドではほとんどの教育現場では英語が使われています。そして家に帰ったら現地の言葉で家族と会話します。

世界中の多くの国々が同様の状況です。

まみさんのように、ますます多くの日本人が世界中の人たちと英語でコミュニケーションをとるようになるでしょう。

英語は単なる学校で習う教科ではないのです。

英語のコミュニケーションスキルを持つことで、他の多くのスキルを習うことができるようになり、多種多様な人々に出会うこともできます。

What country do you think of if I ask you, “What is the fastest growing country in population and economics?” 

Many people think of China.  But did you know that India is growing perhaps even faster than China in terms of population and economics?

That is one of many things our international class learned from our special guest.  Mami Sensei spent 10 months living in India, working in schools, orphanages, and churches.  We asked a lot of questions about food, culture, and people.  The students were surprised to find out that there are over 200 languages spoken in India. 

Mami Sensei lived in a town where she was the only Japanese person.  Nobody could speak Japanese, so she did most of her communication in English. 

In India, most schools do all of their education in English.  Then people speak the local language at home. 

This is common in many countries around the world.  

Like Mami Sensei, more and more people in Japan will use English to communicate with people all over the world, not just English speaking countries.  

English is so much more than a school subject. 

Having English communication skills allows you to learn many other skills, and meet all kinds of different people.
