Happy 2020!! 

We are excited about this year.  I believe it is going to be a year full of blessings.  We received one small blessing this evening.  A customer sent a message of adulation, as her 2nd grade elementary school child did an Eiken 5 practice test, and got a 100 percent score on the listening part on test from the past three years. This student has been learning English for almost 2 years now, and is doing very well.  With Mom’s support, this student follows our system, and does extra practice at home.  Last week we recommended to Mom that maybe her child would enjoy trying the Eiken.  They decided to try a practice test at home.  
Without any previous experience or training directly related to the Eiken, you can imagine Mom’s surprise to see her child have such high scores. The majority of students in Japan study very hard to do well on exams.  
Standardized testing systems can be helpful.  They can also be a distraction and detriment to the entire purpose and process of real learning and education.  We work hard to emphasize wholistic, natural ways of developing English skills, especially with younger students.  We encourage parents to give their children opportunities to develop a love for learning and grow their English skills in a more wholistic way.  The longterm benefits are worth the effort, including high scores on exams such as the Eiken.

2020年おめでとう！

今年は祝福に満ちた良い年になると信じています。今晩、小さい祝福のたよりがありました。小学２年生の子がおうちで英検５級の過去問を解いてみて、３年分全部リスニングが１００％正解だったそうです！（後に４級も試してみました。テスト全体で８０％以上正解でした。）私たちの学校で習ってかれこれ２年、お母さんのおうちでのサポートのもと、私たちが良かれとおもうシステムにのっとり、家でも余分に練習してくれています。前回、英検にトライしてみるのもいいかもねとお話しをしていて、家で力試しをしてくれました。

英検は受けたこともなく、英検に向けての対策もしないで（レッスン中もしてません。検定勉強とはほど遠く、わいわい楽しくレッスンしてます。）高得点を取れて、お母さんも驚いていました。多くの日本の学生さんは試験で良い点を取るために一生懸命がんばっています。標準化されたテストシステムは役に立つ面もありますが、真の学びの過程を邪魔するものでもあります。

私たちは特に若い生徒さんにとっていかに総括的で自然な形で英語のスキルをのばしていくかに注力しています。学ぶことへの喜びを育て、もっとオールラウンドに英語のスキルをつけていく機会をお子さんに経験させてあげることが大事だと思います。そうすることで英検などの試験でもハイスコアがとれたり、努力は長期的な益となります。
